Katie's voice

where pole positions meet power positions

meet the face behind the page

My name is Katie Jones, a sixth form student working towards a career in journalism. I currently study sociology, history and politics at A-Level, and my passion for writing has stemmed from these subjects.

I wanted to be a lawyer, I put in countless hours of work and effort, however one day I decided it just wasn’t for me; it is actually the internship I had with a law firm that made me realise journalism was a passion of mine. It all started with an article written on my work experience placement, where I was set a task of writing an article for the firm’s newsletter, based on an aspect of law at the firm. I chose contract law, specifically because Haas Formula 1 Team’s Oliver Bearman’s contract had been announced earlier in the month. F1 is one of my favourite things in the world, and I wanted to write about something I enjoyed, while still learning about a legal matter. It was my mentor for the week who actually said to me “Katie, have you ever considered journalism?”, my answer was an obvious no, I had the goal of becoming a solicitor for years and at that point I hadn’t even considered another career.

It wasn’t until the summer before year 13 began, my final year of compulsory education, two months before applications for Universities opened and just under 9 months before my exams began that I made the decision to pursue journalism. I began research around potential degrees, began writing small articles, and I finally made the decision to start this blog and get my writing into the world!

My blog will include articles on current UK and international political issues, stemming from my enjoyment of studying politics, notable events, and sports (especially Formula 1).

I can’t wait to share my writing with you, Katie.
